"Outward Appearances are not Inward Reality"
We investigate our "inward reality" to see if we have been running the show on self-will. The Big Book is clear about the obstacle:
“Selfishness—self-centeredness! That, we think, is the root of our troubles.” (Pg.62,¶2,L8)
Personal Consideration: Am I ready to concede that my own ideas and "ego-centric impulses" have not worked?
To move toward a "personality change sufficient to bring about recovery," we must change our relationship with our Creator.
“First of all, we had to quit playing God. It didn’t work.” (Pg.62,¶1,L1)
The decision we make is to let God be our Director. We turn our Will (our thoughts) and our Life (our actions) over to His care.
Having become "convinced" of the 3 Pertinent Ideas, we offer ourselves to God without reservation:
“God, I offer myself to Thee, to build with me and to do with me as Thou wilt. Relieve me of the bondage of self, that I may better do Thy will. Take away my difficulties, that victory over them may bear witness to those I would help of Thy Power, Thy Love, and Thy Way of life. May I do Thy will always!” (Pg.63,L13)
Internalizing the Prayer: You may rewrite this in your own words:
"God you're the One in control, help me get over my problems, and I will give you all the credit for keeping me out of trouble. Forever!"
"Always praying to discover our own truth and live in contented sobriety."
By taking this step, we pass through the "keystone" of the new spiritual structure into freedom.
