Came to Believe

Restoring Sanity through a Power Greater than ourselves.

Do I now believe, or am I even willing to believe, that there is a Power greater than myself?

“Lack of power, that was our dilemma. We had to find a power by which we could live, and it had to be a Power greater than ourselves. Obviously.” (Pg.45)

Internalizing the Need: Since my own willpower and self-knowledge have failed, do I see that I require a Higher Power to solve my problem?
Sanity: Do I believe this Power can "restore us to sanity" regarding my obsession with alcohol or drugs?

Insight: The Cornerstone of Belief

This book is not religious; it is spiritual. It is not about what the Power is, but what that Power can do for you.

“As soon as we were able to lay aside prejudice and express even a willingness to believe in a Power greater than ourselves, we commenced to get results.” (Pg.46)

The Columbus Formula

Like Columbus sailing west to find the east, we start with a "preposterous" idea and test it through action.

Step 2: He "became willing to believe"
Step 3: He "decided" to set sail
The Result: He "commenced to get results" and discovered a new world

A Warning on Intolerance

The only thing that can defeat us is an attitude of intolerance or belligerent denial. We must simply not close our minds to all spiritual concepts.
